Millions of people are facing this problem around the world and many complex factors are involved.
In 1950, Detroit was America's fourth-largest city with 1.85 million people. The population was 83% white. Sixty years later, only 56,000 white residents remained, a 95% drop that left behind abandoned neighborhoods, closed schools, and a bankrupt city.
