Spanking your children is not healthy for them
- As a child psychologist I find it remarkable that we continue to debate the merits of spanking as a form of discipline ("Spankers aren’t monsters," Sept. 27). The American Psychological Association asserts that "spanking, hitting, and other means of causing pain – can lead to aggression, anti-social behavior, physical injury and mental health problems for children." It is even more shocking that, despite clear evidence against spanking, two-thirds of Americans continue to approve of parents spanking their children.
